BRONX, NY -Harry S Truman High School celebrated Hispanic Heritage Month on Oct. 25, honoring the independence days of of several Latin American countries, including Mexico, Costa Rica, El Salvador, and Chile. It also recognized the cultures and traditions of ALL Hispanic countries around the world. The event, organized by the Foreign Language Department and Culture Club, brought together around 200 students, who enjoyed performances by a Mariachi band, dance team, choir, and poetry reading.
“It’s crucial for our students to recognize and celebrate both their cultural similarities and differences,” said Assistant Principal Themis Papaelias. “Watching this event grow each year is truly inspiring.”
Sophomore Mia Colon-Perez shared her excitement: “This is my favorite day of the year at Truman. It makes me proud of my heritage and excited to share it with my friends.”
The day underscored Truman’s dedication to inclusivity and cultural appreciation, showcasing the spirit and resilience that Hispanic Heritage Month represents.
