International Pronouns Day!

Wednesday October 20, 2021 is International Pronouns Day! A day that seeks to make respecting, sharing, and educating about personal pronouns commonplace. We use pronouns most often when referring to someone without using their name. While he/him and she/her are thought to be the only personal pronouns, the singular use of they/them has been around for about 600 years.

Referring to people by the pronouns they determine for themselves is basic to human dignity, and we’re all worthy of that. On this day, we invite you to explore and challenge your preconceived notions of personal pronouns, what biases might you be holding onto that get in the way of respecting the personal pronouns of someone else. We can learn and unlearn together.

Together, we know we can transform our school community to celebrate people’s multiple, intersecting identities.
