October is nationally recognized as Domestic Violence Awareness Month. The Relationship Abuse Prevention Program (RAPP) works in our school community to educate folks about dating and domestic violence, while promoting healthy relationships and respect.
On September 26th, RAPP Peer Leaders participated in the 17th Annual Gladys Ricart & Victims of Domestic Violence Memorial Brides March. Dressed in black and white, some wearing veils, one donning a wedding gown, some carrying signs, we marched from Washington Heights to the Bronx Supreme Courthouse to Harlem, ending at E. 101st Street in El Barrio.
We lent our bodies and voices to this march, calling for an end to domestic violence. We even distributed literature and engaged in discussion with people in the community about our work. Our Peer Leaders met Television Personality Evelyn Lozada and Actress/Author April Hernandez along the way. As a result of Truman RAPP’s continuous participation in this March, we were invited for an advocacy in Washington, DC on October 24th. Stay tuned for more information on that. In the meantime, please enjoy these pictures taken during the Brides March.
