Over 600 students from MS 180, 181, PS 178 and Truman High School took to the track on October 4th to celebrate World Smile Day with the Smile Train Organization.
Smile Train raises money to provide corrective surgery to children born with cleft lip and cleft palates in developing countries around the world. The surgery costs the organization only $250 per child. This year, Smile Train expects to mark their 1-millionth cleft repair surgery.
Students in the after-school program Project BOOST hold various fundraisers throughout the year to raise money for the effort.
Carl Vinci, the director of Project BOOST, says his crews have raised $35,000 in four years, which has provided surgery for 144 babies across the world.
