As the school year is coming to an end, I am proud to share that Truman is being honored for a fourth consecutive year by the Anti-Defamation League as “No Place For Hate.” For the first time, we will be receiving the “Gold Star” banner! This is truly testament to the work we do in the school community raising awareness of teen dating abuse, providing education about abuse, harassment, and bullying, and promoting healthy relationships.
RAPP Peer Leaders have worked collaboratively within the Truman community, with their peers, teachers, buildOn, Ms. Neverson’s dance crew, and the guidance department. What is most notable is their confidence in taking a stand on issues like violence against women and homophobia, knowing that they may face a wave of ignorance, but that does not deter them from standing up for what is right and just, and modeling that behavior.
RAPP has spearheaded several school-wide awareness campaigns, including the Red Flag Campaign, One Billion Rising, International Street Harassment Awareness Week, the National Day of Silence, and Denim Day. With growing support each year, we will ensure that Truman remains “No Place For Hate.”
