Harry S Truman High School is proud to offer a 4-year Culinary Arts Program to incoming freshmen. The Culinary Arts Program teaches students food preparation, restaurant management, and hospitality. The program culminates in an internship during senior year. This program is affiliated with several reputable restaurants and enjoys partnerships with National Restaurant Associations ACF and the Culinary Institute of America. Truman students are afforded the opportunity to interact with professionals in the business.
Our state-of-the-art culinary center is structured to teach culinary arts to students as well as to provide a team building environment at Harry S Truman High School. We focus on technique while teaching our students to prepare culinary works of art. Our students learnto work together while creating delicious meals.
Our hands-on culinary courses at Trumanare rewarding and effective in developing organizational skills, sharpening communication skills, and promoting group work.
Within your first few days of high school, YOU ARE COOKING! Whether you are preparing pizza, baking cookies, or creating a casserole, you are gaining the necessary knowledge to enter the culinary field WHILE HAVING FUN!
Enrolling in Truman’s Culinary Arts Program is the first step toward entering one of the most exciting industries in the world. Truman’s culinary instructors are well trained.Mr. Harold Chase is a graduate of the Culinary Institute of America and Mr. Jesse Miller is a graduate of the NYC College of Technology. Attending culinary classes in high school gives you the opportunity to prepare for a lucrative career while fulfilling academic requirements.
Field trips will be made to Chelsea Market and New York City restaurants along with other culinary themed educational trips.
